This is an estimate/checking tool, not a guarantee. Jewellers may apply different making-charge methods, wastage percentages or rounding, so a small difference does not necessarily mean the bill is wrong — use this to spot-check the arithmetic, then ask your jeweller to explain any large gap.

What Is the Jewellery Bill Checker?

It recalculates a jewellery bill from its individual components — metal rate, weight, making charge, wastage and GST — and compares that expected total against the amount you actually paid, so you can see exactly where any difference comes from.

How the Comparison Works

Metal value is weight multiplied by rate. Wastage and making charge are added on top of the metal value, using whichever method your bill states, to give a subtotal. GST is then applied to that subtotal to give the expected total. That expected total is compared against the actual amount you paid to show the difference.

Why a Bill Might Differ From This Estimate

There is no single universal standard for making charges or wastage — jewellers set their own percentages, and some quote making charges per gram or as a flat amount instead of a percentage. Rounding, additional charges like hallmarking fees, or a rate that moved between quote and billing can also cause a small gap.

What to Do With a Mismatch

A small difference is usually just rounding. For a larger gap, check that you entered the exact rate, making-charge method and wastage percentage shown on the bill, then ask the jeweller to walk through their breakdown — this tool is meant to help that conversation, not replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this tool tell me if my jeweller overcharged me?
It tells you whether the bill total matches what the stated rate, weight, making charge, wastage and GST add up to. It cannot judge whether the making charge or wastage percentage itself is fair — those vary by jeweller.
Why does the calculated total not match my bill exactly?
Small differences are usually rounding. Larger differences often mean the making-charge method, wastage percentage or rate entered here does not exactly match what the jeweller used — double-check each figure against the printed bill.
Is GST always 3% on jewellery in India?
3% is the standard GST rate applied to gold and silver jewellery in India, which is why it is the default here, but always use the GST percentage actually shown on your bill.
Can I use this for a bill that lists making charges per gram instead of a percentage?
This tool accepts making charge as a percentage of metal value or a fixed amount. For a per-gram making charge, multiply it by the weight first and enter that as a fixed amount, or use the Making Charge Calculator, which supports per-gram directly.
